Want to find out more about ReNEWS? Who’s behind this initiative? What our future plans might include? Find the answers to these questions and more below.
What is ReNEWS?
ReNEWS is a community for news professionals to come together (virtually, for now) to discuss pressing socio-cultural challenges and how they affect our newsrooms, our workflow and our editorial decisions. Committed to considering various perspectives, we aim to reflect and learn. We’ll always start with two key questions, “Where are our blind spots in our coverage? Are we choosing sides, however inadvertently?”
What will ReNEWS Do?
ReNEWS is a (virtual) conversation for news professionals about pressing social issues and how we in the news cover them. We will host a quarterly conversation between experts and editors, and we’ll look at everything through the lens of “how does this affect my newsroom?”

Who's behind ReNEWS?
ReNEWS has been initiated by a team with extensive experience in the world of news and media.
The moderator and face of ReNEWS is Amy Selwyn. Amy started her career in US and international news and journalism with The New York Times, the BBC, and The Associated Press. Later, as an independent consultant, she became the managing director of News Xchange, the international news industry’s premier annual gathering.
In 2012, Amy co-founded Storytegic, a consultancy firm to media brands, with Cornelis Jacobs, where they developed journalism events in South Africa, Indonesia, the Middle East, China and Japan. This experience ultimately led to the launch of ReNEWS at the end of 2020 with support of fellow partners Janine Roozemond and Martijn van der Werff who have more than 30 years experience in event and television production through their company Kingcanary.
