Jon Williams is Managing Director, News & Current Affairs at RTÉ, Ireland’s national broadcaster, where he leads the organization’s journalism, on radio, TV and online, and sits on RTÉ’s Executive Board. Jon moved to Dublin in 2017 after 4 years in New York at ABC where he was Managing Editor, International News, winning an Emmy for the network’s coverage of the Syrian refugee crisis. Prior to that, Jon served as World Editor for BBC News for 7 years, leading the reporting of the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan as well as on Syria. He was the BBC’s UK News Editor during the 7/7 terror attacks in London. Jon also sits on the board of the Committee to Protect Journalists, where he chairs its nominations committee, recruiting new directors for its campaign for press freedom.
